Rainy Day Activity Generator

Pick three age-appropriate indoor activities from the time and materials you have on hand. A practical answer for rainy days.

โ€”

What you get

Three indoor activities chosen from the age band, time block, and materials you select. Each suggestion comes with a rough time slice so you can fill an hour without planning it yourself.

How to use it

Pick the age group and how long you need to fill. Choose the materials you actually have; the tool filters out ideas that require a craft drawer you do not own. Set a timer for each block and stop when it rings, even if the activity is going well โ€” stopping early leaves them wanting more.

One example

A 5โ€“7 year old with one hour and household items might get a blanket fort, sock puppets, and a kitchen science station, about twenty minutes each. The exact list changes each time, so the same child gets a different mix on the next rainy day.

Common questions

What if an activity flops?

Move to the next one without commentary. A failed activity costs ten minutes; forcing it costs the whole afternoon.

Are these screen-free?

Yes. Every suggestion uses people, household items, or craft supplies and no screens.

What about different ages?

Run the generator for the youngest child and adapt the setup for older siblings. Older children often enjoy building the fort or stage for the younger one.
